Slop Grenades
The Golden Rule of AI: Don’t use AI to save yourself time by wasting someone else’s.
It’s already a meme that someone’s AI is preparing a long message just to send to someone else who uses their own AI to distil it. These long-winded messages are a sign that the sender didn’t really consider the receiver.
I preach that when writing, you need to think about your audience. This rule doesn’t change with how you use AI. Take the other side into consideration and stop throwing slop grenades at them.
How do you react to slop grenades?
Planning
Talking about the thing and doing the thing vie [compete] for the same resources. Allocate your energy appropriately.
I’m guilty of allocating too much energy to talking instead of doing. For me, talking about the plans themselves generates a sense of satisfaction.
I’m lucky to have a network of friends with whom I regularly meet for virtual coffees, so I often get the question “what are your plans?” — something I’m always happy to talk about.
I’ve decided to change my approach to these questions. Now I’ll divert the topic to what I’m doing about the plans I previously just talked about.
What are your plans? Or better yet, what are you doing about them?
Forget
Forget mistakes, forget failures, forget everything, except what you’re going to do now and do it. Today is your lucky day.
The quote above is a great reminder that you are not a hostage of your past, you can always try and do things differently. Also, don’t forget lessons from mistakes.
Are you able to block out your past and focus on the present?
Thanks for reading,
— Michał
