"Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius 5/5
Marcus Aurelius wrote his meditations just for himself. Reading someone's private thoughts feels odd but for hundreds of years people have been glad that he documented them. I hope he doesn't mind.
The book is an endless source of wisdom and gives us the perspective of showing that life and the problems of people from ancient Rome weren’t much different from what we experience today. It is worth remembering that we are not that special.
I was amused by the wisdom behind all his thoughts. So much so, that I started giving it to anyone anytime there was an occasion for a gift. The book is timeless and passing the test of time is the ultimate review which is why I couldn’t give it any less than 5/5.
Edition I picked is the most recent translation and includes an introduction to Meditations by the translator - Gregory Hays, who is an associate professor of classics. It seems easier to understand when compared to older ones.
